They crash while I am doing something in the programs as opposed to when they are sitting there in background while I'm using another program. Sometimes Calc will exhibit weirdness with data/data entry/formulas just before it crashes. Rather the crashes simply occur randomly while editing work. The crashes are not immediate at OpenOffice startup with the exception of scenarios where it's trying to recover files from the previous crash and sometime crashes or locks up doing that. Seems to crash while using Calc more often than Writer but of course when one crashes it takes the other one with it. One scenario that seems prevalent is using copy and paste in a spread sheet, usually copying from some other document or spreadsheet, paste often throws the Bad allocation error and then crashes. The crashes are not particularly reproducible but they will occur as sure as the sun rises. It crashes several times a day or even in an hour. I m a heavy user working on multiple documents and spreadsheets open concurrently while running multiple browsers with multiple browser windows and tabs open. Not much else for programs running on the laptop, just Acrobat and web browsers running along with OpenOffice.

Same story, 4.1.7 on Windows 10 with 24GB RAM. Just FYI I am #two among the millions and millions of users that has been experiencing crashes for several months now. How could an other application interfere at this point? I switch (using alt-tab) to an other window and open office crashes. I mean: I edit a spreadsheet and it is stable. I hoped for OO internal logging options to get a clue where the problem sits, but as nobody points that way, there seem to be none? If it was that simple, I would have found the problem for long. So there is no such thing like "enable a service and see if the problem appears" in this case. It doesn't necessarily happen immediately or within short time and there is no pattern enabling a prediction. People here don't seem to understand that the problem is not predictable in terms of "how often it happens". And Open Office / the computer isn't really usable in Safe Mode, so that's not a feasible solution.Įnabling services one by one without having an unstable system will be an other challenge. You would hear back from me in a couple years, I guess. For each one of them I would need to try again for days to weeks if the problem appears or not, with this particular service enabled. I would have to use safe mode whenever I use Openoffice for a week or two, to know if it really doesn't crash.īesides, you must be kidding, it got to be dozens if not hundreds of services that are not running in safe mode, but will run in normal mode. It might as well work for hours in normal mode, before crashing again.

That half hour running in safe mode means nothing. Other, more resource hungry applications would have problems as well, if it was a hardware problem. It has always been clear that it is not a hardware problem. would we know more? Information that helps cure the problem? (I don't see that either)ĭon't take my doubts wrong: I seriously "don't know" and I want to see a sense and result from actions or it is just a waste of time. (I don't see that currently, that's why I am hesitant)Īs I see it, we just would have a "good chance than one of the many services being started in normal mode interferes with OO", what is pretty safe to say already.īut what's the next step from there? How do we find the culprit?Īnd if it crashed anyway. Running it half an hour in safe mode means nothing, sometimes nothing happens for several days, on the other day it crashes every couple minutes.īut assuming I ran it in Safe Mode and it didn't crash for an extended period, would we have any finding that helps us find the source of the problem?

This may be just an issue with my installation but I'd appreciate any guidance on the best steps to take to try to resolve the crashes. I'm not seeing crashes due to any other programs. I only use OO occasionally and haven't really needed to dig into it but my need for OO is increasing and I would like to try to figure out how to address my problems. It typically catches the majority of my updates during recovery but I certainly have lost some things at times. It has been crashing intermittently for months now and seems to crash every hour or so (more often when making lots of updates to docs). I'm also having problems with OO 4.1.7 crashing on Win10 (primarily while using Draw, Writer, Calc).
